About the author:
My name is Martin Knaup, and – guess what – my focus of work is Virtualization and Cloud Computing, especially Multi-Cloud architecture.
I’m working in the IT sector since 1996, starting as a Unix (Solaris) administrator for a major German mobile phone network operator. Got tired of 9 to 5 office work and moved on to the consulting business in 2000. Gained skills in high availibilty environments with Veritas Cluster Server and first got in touch with virtualization in 2005 when the fascinating new feature of Zones / Containers was introduced with Solaris 10. But the SPARC technology already didn’t seem to have a bright future, so I switched the focus to x86 and VMware ESX. Even more fascinating. Certification seem to be a good idea, so I became VCP3 in 2008, VCP4 in 2009 and VCP5[-DV] in 2011. The by far hardest exam was to become VMware Certified Advanced Professional – Datacenter Design (VCAP4-DCD), which I passed as #483 in 2012. In December 2014 I sucessfully took the recertification delta exam for VCP5-DV.
The introduction of Cloud technologies, either as an evolution of virtualization or revolutionary new approach to supplying and consuming IT services, offered an extension to my field of work. Meanwhile I’m focusing on Multi-Cloud architecture and strategies, although technologically still staying close with the VMware vSphere and vRealize Suite products.
Currently I’m working for 7P Solutions & Consulting AG, a business and IT consulting company based in Ratingen, Germany. Feel free to contact me. No, you have to find out my business email address yourself. 😉
